Islamologist Ramadan arrested on suspicion of rape

The well-known Swiss Islamologist Tariq Ramadan, a former professor at the Erasmus University, is detained in France on suspicion of sexual abuse.

In October, a French woman had filed a report against Ramadan, after which more reactions followed. For example, Swiss women say that they were seduced by Ramadan when he was still a French teacher. In November, it turned out that two women reported for rape in 2009 and 2012.

Ramadan is a well-known name in the Islamic world. He teaches at the University of Oxford, where he was put on non-active, but also worked at the Erasmus University. There he was sent away after a fuss about a TV program for Iranian state TV. That dismissal was otherwise unjustified, the judge later ruled.
