IOM: distribution seekers slow

The number of refugees received in Greece and subsequently taken up by other Member States of the European Union, remains limited.

In September 2015, agreements were made about the distribution of asylum seekers across the EU. The intention was that other countries would take some 66 000 Greek asylum seekers. From Italy, more than 40 000 refugees would be housed elsewhere. So far, there are only 4500.

Yet the IOM is optimistic. 'The number of pledges from EU countries has increased in recent months. '
