Indonesian police officer killed in Papua

An Indonesian police officer was shot on Wednesday near the Freeport copper mine in the Papua province.

The officers were shot during a police patrol. They were taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Timika. Access to the mine is closed after the incident. It was not immediately clear who was behind the shelling. According to the police, perpetrators belong to an 'armed criminal group', but according to other sources, it would be separatist rebels.

In the last few months, eight people have been injured and two police officers killed in shooting.
