Hundreds dead in Myanmar water festival

Certainly 285 people have been killed and 1073 injured during the four-day water festival Thingyan in Myanmar.

Last year, the death toll at 272. Most of the deaths were due to accidents and criminal violence. A total of 1200 criminal offenses, such as murder, drug use and theft recorded during Thingyan which took place from Thursday to Sunday.

During the festival held as conclusion of the Burmese New Year, it is intended that everyone throws water and that everyone gets wet to purify the soul for a good start to the new year.
