Human Rights Assistance for Mexican Perez

The Mexican human rights defender Graciela Pérez Rodríguez gets the Human Rights Assistance this year.

Pérez Rodríguez addresses the rights of relatives of disappeared persons in Mexico. The human rights activist deepens in forensic science and is co-founder of Forensic Citizen Science. This collective of relatives of missing people in Mexico has, among other things, created a DNA database for citizens. That can help identify lost victims of disappearance. Van Pérez himself, a daughter, brother and three cousins ​​have disappeared.

The Human Rights Aid is an annual award from the Dutch government. The price includes a bronze image and an amount of 100,000 euros. Last year, the prize went to Pakistani Internet activist Nighat Dad.
