House search with left-wing French leader: Political attack

At the left-wing French party leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon, a search was made on Tuesday.

According to French media, the searches were conducted for two investigations: one to improper or fraudulent use of money intended for MEPs, the second to irregularities in the financing of the LFI election campaign.

In the first round of the presidential elections last year, the left-radical Mélenchon got almost a fifth of the voters (19.6 percent) behind him. That was much more than the former vanguard of the left in France, the Parti Socialiste (PS). The presidential candidate of the PS, Benoît Hamon, received only 6.3 percent.
