House chooses female Democrat Pelosi as president

Democrat Nancy Pelosi (78) will chair the American House of Representatives for the next two years.

The Democrats were given a majority in the House by the November interim elections. Pelosi fulfilled the important position of chairman, as the first woman, earlier in the period 2007-2011.
