Hong Kong prohibits political party separatists

The authorities in Hong Kong have forbidden a political party for the first time.

The National Party is striving for independence for Hong Kong, a former British Crown colony that was returned to China in 1997. The metropolis is governed according to the principle 'one country, two systems', as a result of which it has an autonomous status within China.

Minister Lee stated that the separatist HKNP violates the constitution ('basic law') of the metropolis. He also accused the approximately two-year-old party of 'hating hatred against Chinese from the Chinese mainland.' According to the minister, it can not be excluded that other groups with a similar agenda will also be tackled.
