High fined for refusing refugee

EU countries that still refuse to take in refugees must pay 250,000 euros per refugee they do not include.

With that very controversial proposal, the European Commission wants Member States to move to better distribute the migrants. All previous plans to relieve Italy and Greece, came to nothing. Of the 160 000 refugees who should be reinstated, that is managed by a few hundred.

The old 'Dublin rule' that the country where refugees arrive is responsible for the reception, no longer works because the southern countries sit in the front row. But especially the former Eastern Bloc countries want to record migrants. Poland should record more than 6000, when surrender would cost the country half billion. Diplomats expect too much resistance to the proposal that the Commission on Wednesday will announce officially.

In the 'new Dublin' countries remain where asylum seekers arrive primarily responsible, but if there are too many, enter an automatic 'correction' in operation. On that redistribution takes into account the population size and economic weight of a country. Those who do not participate must pay. The amount of 250. 000 is not definitive yet, but the Commission thinks that order of magnitude to get enough pressure on them.
