Herd of elephants storms on villagers: one dead

A Thai man was killed by a confrontation with a herd of elephants.

The wife of the 54-year-old man said that the villagers used slings to keep the wild elephants at bay. In the past month they would have been working almost every night to protect their fields, which are near a forest.

The man was killed when elephants had started the attack. Witnesses say that about ten of the enormous animals descended on the villagers. The victim could not get to safety in time and was seriously injured. He later died in the hospital from his injuries.

The elephants attacked another man from the village earlier this month. The 73-year-old victim was hit by a trunk and broke his back.
