Happily Italian chef Marchesi (87) dead

At the age of 87, the famous Italian chef Gualtiero Marchesi died in Milan.

Marchesi, son of restaurateurs, perfected his techniques in Switzerland and France before returning to Italy. Already within a year of opening his first restaurant in Milan he was awarded a Michelin star, the following year his second. Another third followed another seven years, at the time a unique one for Italy. In the early 80's he designed the saffron risotto with gold leaf and that became one of his most famous dishes. Then he opened restaurants in Paris and Rome, among others. In 2011 Marchesi created two hamburgers and a dessert for fast food chain McDonald's.

The Italian agriculture and food minister Maurizio Martina remembers Marchesi as 'the great master of the kitchen of our country'. Mayor Guiseppe Sala: 'Milan owes him a lot. '
