Hacker hijacks mail alert police

Police in the northern Netherlands warns of a hacker with a fake email attempting to abuse a mail warning announced by the police.

Tuesday police received about some phone alerts.

Monday, police announced that some 20 000 people this week receive a mail in which recipients are urged to change their credentials. That may be stolen by an arrested suspect cybercrime.

The fake mail sender 'Police Summons' suggests that the recipient has received a letter from the police. The mail contains a link to download the letter yet if it is not received.

The mails that the police sends is no download link. Police warn recipients to pay attention to the sender of an e-mail and not to download files to emails from an unknown sender.
