Greek ministers leave after riot over rent allowance

The Greek Minister of Economic Affairs, Dimitris Papadimitriou, resigned after a riot about a rent allowance for his wife, Rania Antonopoulou.

Antonopoulou acknowledged that several years ago she applied for and received a total of EUR 23,000 in public money for the rent. She does not claim to have violated the law, but is willing to return it. According to Greek newspaper Kathimerini, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will take the opportunity to change the composition of his government on Tuesday.

According to Greek media, the 'ministerial couple' was 'the richest couple' in the government. In 2015 they earned a total of 450,000 euros and they are owners of numerous buildings at home and abroad.
