Greek jet fighter plunges into the Aegean Sea

A jet fighter from the Greek Air Force was thrown into the Aegean Sea on Thursday.

The device, a Mirage 2000-5, was according to the Greek media after a mission on the way back to its base on the island of Skyros. It had taken off to intercept Turkish fighter planes. That happens regularly. Greece and Turkey have been arguing for decades about sovereignty rights in the region, including in the airspace over the Aegean Sea.

At the time of the accident there were no Turkish jets in the area, the Turkish media reported.
