Greece: agreement on Macedonia

Athens and Skopje have reached an agreement about the name of Macedonia after decades.

Both countries have been in trouble for years about the name Macedonia. The conflict dates back to 1991, when Macedonia peacefully separated from Yugoslavia and continued as the independent Republic of Macedonia. That fell badly in Greece, which has its own region Macedonia.

Tsipras said that the Greek parliament is still allowed to comment on the agreement. It is still unclear which name Macedonia should get. The intended name change of the country is particularly sensitive.
