Governor Mississippi signs abortion law

The governor of Mississippi has put his signature on Monday under the strictest abortion law in the US.

'I feel obliged to make Mississippi the safest place in America for the unborn child. This law helps to achieve the goal, 'said Bryant. So far, in the state, as in seventeen others, abortion was allowed up to 20 weeks after conception.

The American Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973 and gave women the right to decide for themselves until the fetus is considered viable outside the womb. In practice, termination of a pregnancy is often made more difficult. In the new law of Mississippi an exception is made for serious abnormalities in the fruit or medical necessity, but not if the woman has become pregnant by rape or incest.
