Golden Bear for Fuocoammare

The film Fuocoammare of Italian director Gianfranco Rosi won at the 66th Berlinale Golden Bear.

Fuocoammare (Fire at sea) has a current topic: life with refugees on the Italian island of Lampedusa. The leading roles are played by Pietro Bartolo, Samuele Caruana and Maria Costa.

The Danish actress Trine Dyrholm and the Tunisian actor Majd Mastoura each received a Silver Bear as best lead actor. The award for best director went to Frenchwoman Mia Hansen-Løve, which L'Avenir (The Future) made with Isabelle Huppert. The Grand Jury Prize was for the Bosnian Danis Tanovic, which you Sarajevu Smrt (Death in Sarajevo) directed.

Best screenplay was written by the Pole Tomasz Wasilewski for the film Die Kommune.
