Girl (5) killed, occupants known criminals

After the fatal collision in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, where a five-year-old girl was killed, two people in their twenties and one in their thirties were arrested.

According to Belgian media, these are 'known criminals' of drug and traffic violations. It is not clear what nationality the suspects have. They would be living in Belgium. Two of the three occupants fled after the accident.

The mother and her children were hit on the sidewalk for a branch of supermarket chain Lidl. The mother is still in a critical condition, a second child (8) is out of danger.

'Because of the crash the car was lying on its side', a local resident tells Het Nieuwsblad. 'We have man and power pushed the car back on its four wheels because the child was trapped under the car. It was terrible to see. '
