Germany closes migrant deal with Spain

The German government has reached a final agreement with Spain to take back migrants more quickly.

Migrants who are stopped at the German border and who have entered the European Union in Spain will be returned. The agreement must go into effect on Saturday. This weekend, Chancellor Angela Merkel travels to Spain. She met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez there. The subject of migration is therefore on the agenda.

Germany is also in discussion with Italy and Greece about taking back asylum seekers registered in those countries. Other EU countries have already promised Germany to do so.
