Germany arms itself against high water

Cologne, Düsseldorf and other German cities take measures against flooding, because the water level in the Rhine rises rapidly due to the heavy rain and thaw.

'If that level is indeed reached, we will have to temporarily stop shipping on the Rhine near Cologne,' said a spokesperson for the Cologne Water Management Service Friday against Focus magazine. With a water level of 8.30 meters, shipping is halted at Cologne. Friday was the level 7. 40 meters.

In the Cologne district of Porz-Zündorf a quay was made on Friday to protect the residents against the water. In Düsseldorf, a quay was erected in the old harbor to prevent water from flowing into the old town from the Rhine. In Bonn, the dikes have been subjected to a thorough inspection.
