Germany and Turkey are looking for a rapprochement

The German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel and his Turkish counterpart Cavusoglu have assured each other Saturday that they will do everything to tighten the ties between Berlin and Ankara.

Mevlut Cavusoglu indicated during his visit to Germany that he wants to build bridges with Germany, the most important trading partner of Turkey. He said that they must solve 'difficulties and disagreements' through dialogue and cooperation.

The relations had deteriorated sharply because Germany criticized the harsh way in which Ankara responded to the failed coup in 2016 and the arrest of a German-Turkish journalist.
