German parties almost finished with exploration

The German Christian Democrats and Social Democrats are expected to complete their exploratory talks in Berlin on Thursday.

Also the leader of the Social Democratic SPD, Martin Schulz, stated that 'we still have to eliminate major obstacles. 'He expressed the hope of completing talks with Merkel and CSU leader Horst Seehofer on Thursday evening.

The talks started Sunday. They serve to determine whether it makes sense to continue to discuss the formation of a government. Chancellor Merkel initially negotiated with the liberal FDP and the Greens after the elections, but that did not work out. After an election defeat, the SPD actually wanted to take an opposition, but eventually agreed to consult.
