German government parties seal GroKo

Almost half a year after the elections of the German Bundestag, the government parties sealed the new big coalition (GroKo) under the leadership of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

The ceremony in the Paul Löbe House of the Bundestag was attended by Merkel, acting SPD chairman Olaf Scholz and CSU leader Horst Seehofer. The Presidents Andrea Nahles (SPD), Volker Kauder (CDU) and the CSU, Alexander Dobrindt, signed for the political groups.

Merkel is elected Chancellor for the fourth time on Wednesday. She can also count on the support of the alliance CDU / CSU and SPD for the third time. The appointment of the new cabinet by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is also scheduled for Wednesday.
