German court rejects appeal Erdogan

A German court on Tuesday an appeal by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dismissed a case against the head of the German publisher Axel Springer.

Erdogan had a lower court unsuccessfully sought a preliminary injunction to prevent Mathias Döpfner would repeat a derogatory comment about the Turkish leader. Döpfner had publicly expressed his support for the controversial poem comedian John Böhmermann in March had read for German television. In it, the Turkish leader was ridiculed and among others called a goat fucker.

The Court of Appeal affirmed the judgment of May, because the observations of Döpfner subject to German legally protected freedom of expression.
