Fujimori rushed to hospital

Alberto Fujimori (79), former president of Peru, was rushed from prison to a hospital and, according to his personal physician, is in danger of life.

The patient was transferred from the prison to the hospital at the request of doctors. Fujimori is serving a prison sentence of 25 years for corruption and violation of human rights during his presidency from 1990 to 2000.

Fujimori is a highly controversial figure in Peru that also causes divisions from prison. He is beloved by his supporters because of his economic policy and hated by his opponents who call him a corrupt dictator.

Immediately after hospitalization, Fujimori supporters advised current President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to release Fujimori definitively. Kuczynski said earlier that it was undesirable to have the former president die in captivity. Opponents have announced that they will terminate all cooperation with the center-right government of the president's party if Fujimori is released.

The former president has been struggling for years with fragile health. In 2011, tongue cancer was diagnosed with him.
