French rock star Hallyday died

The French rocker Johnny Hallyday died at the age of 74.

Hallyday, the French answer to Elvis Presley, sold more than 100 million albums in his long musical career. He is praised for bringing rock 'n' roll to France and produced about a hundred albums, most of which between 1960 and 1990.

In the Netherlands his popularity was much less than in the French-speaking world. He scored two number one hits, namely: Tes tendres années and Pour moi la vie va commencer, who both appeared in 1963.

Hallydays real name is Jean-Philippe Smet.
