France gives artworks back to Benin

France will return 26 colonial art works to the West African country Benin.

The objects that go back to Benin are statues and other works of art that the French have captured in the war in 1892 against the then kingdom of Dahomey. The artworks are now exhibited at the Quai Branley museum.

The government of Benin had officially asked France a few years ago to return the objects.
