Former vice-premier Catalonia remains stuck

The former Deputy Prime Minister of Catalonia, Oriol Junqueras, remains stuck.

The judges stated that there is no evidence that Junqueras has 'left the path he has followed so far'. As a result, the leader of the party Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) probably misses the first session of the new Catalan Parliament on 17 January.

Junqueras is in pre-trial detention because of his share in the campaign to separate the north-eastern region of Catalonia from Spain. His former political boss, Carles Puigdemont, has fled to Belgium. Madrid fired the Catalan regional government in October. That decision followed a declaration of independence in the regional parliament.
