Former Prime Minister Pakistan gets ten years in prison

Deported Pakistani former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (68) has been sentenced to a prison sentence of ten years.

The court ruled that Sharif and his family can not prove how they funded the purchase of real estate in London. That is why those possessions must be confiscated on behalf of the Pakistani state, was the judgment. Furthermore, daughter Maryam was sentenced to a prison sentence of seven years. Her husband must spend a year behind the bars.

Sharif has been Prime Minister of Pakistan three times. The Supreme Court dismissed him in 2017 because he had concealed income. The politician was not present when the verdict was pronounced. He is with his family in London. Sharif and his daughter denied being guilty and are likely to appeal.
