Florida braces for Hurricane Michael

The tropical storm Michael, who travels across the Gulf of Mexico towards the United States, has developed into a hurricane.

Michael is now about 220 kilometers east-northeast of the coast of the Mexican Cozumel. According to the NHC, the hurricane would gain momentum if it reached the state of Florida on Tuesday night or Wednesday (local times). By that time, Michael would have developed into a hurricane of the third category (with wind speeds of up to 178 kilometers per hour).

The governor of Florida, Rick Scott, has declared a state of emergency in more than twenty areas along the state's coastline.
