Facebook constructive at consumer consultation

Senior representatives of Facebook have established 'open and constructive' on Wednesday in a consultation with consumer organizations from Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Brazil.

Consumer organizations require 'appropriate compensation' for consumers whose data have been abused. They also want to negotiate compensation if it appears that users have been manipulated via other apps on the Facebook platform.

The five want to know what the social network is going to do to eliminate the risks for users and to apply consumer rights correctly. Facebook said it attaches great importance to this, reports the Belgian Test-Aankoop.

Consumers must be the 'only real manager' of their own data and know exactly what they are being used for, according to Test-Aankoop. Facebook has promised to return to the requirements within two weeks. The complaint procedure will be stopped until then.

The privacy watchdogs in the EU are also looking at the case, under the leadership of the British. The regulators could impose a fine.
