Ex-doublespion Skripal no longer critical

The Russian former double-spy Sergej Skripal is no longer in critical condition.

'He responds well to the treatment, his condition quickly improves and he is no longer in danger,' said a spokesperson for the hospital in Salisbury.

Skripal and his daughter Joelia were found unconscious on a bench on 4 March. According to Britain they have been attacked with a nerve gas that was originally developed by the Soviet Union and Moscow is behind the poisoning. Russia denies any involvement. The attack was the first time since the Second World War that a nerve gas was used on European territory.

Earlier, it was already known that Yulia is on the mend.
