Evacuations caused by forest fires at Sydney

Australian firefighters have evacuated hundreds of people from a national park ravaged by forest fires.

The authorities had sent around 70,000 text messages to the people in the region south of the city of Sydney, calling on the fire department to avoid the area. According to local media, there were still about a thousand visitors, including many tourists, in the 150-square-kilometer park when the fires broke out. Up to now, some 6000 hectares have been destroyed. the fire department suspects that the fires have been lit.

The state of New South Wales has been struggling for weeks under a heat wave with temperatures rising to over forty degrees.
