European Union is working on science cloud

Scientists, businesses and governments in Europe have much better use of the possibilities offered by the digital revolution.

The European Commission presented this Tuesday a blueprint. The project is the next five years 6.7 billion needed from public and private investments. At a later stage, the public sector and the business community should also be of benefit.

Europe is the largest producer,, '' of science in the world, but this,, big data 'are underutilized, says Brussels. The plans therefore provide the necessary supercomputing, storage and fast Internet connections. EU Commissioner Carlos Moedas (Science and Innovation) believes that the benefits for European science, economy and society,, are huge. '

For research into so-called quantum technology that enable supercomputers with unprecedented power, is EUR 1 billion. Partly because part of it reaches the Delft University of Technology, says MEP Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (VVD) of,, super good news for the Dutch economy. ''
