European Parliament wants more money for democracy

The European Parliament wants the EU to dedicate much more money to support organizations that are committed to democracy in Europe.

That is three times as much as the 642 million proposed by the European Commission. The plan to punish member states that fail to comply with the principles of the rule of law with discounts on EU funds was given the green light. The parliament had asked the daily management of the EU itself to submit a bill for this, which it did in May.
