European aid offer for Italy

The European Union stands ready to assist Italy following the earthquake last night.

The European Commission's disaster center is following developments closely and is in contact with the Italian authorities about the help that can be offered from Europe. Brussels proposes satellite imagery available to assess the extent of the damage.
