EU wants revision Iranian lawyer punishment

The European Union believes that the prison sentence of at least seven years imposed on the well-known Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh should be reviewed immediately.

The six-year prison sentence that Sotoudeh's husband Reza Khandan received in January should also be reviewed. Iran must in any case respect their right to appeal, according to a statement. President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani strongly condemned the punishment for 55-year-old Sotoudeh, who received the Parliament's Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought in 2012.
