Elections Kurdish region postponed

The presidential elections in the Kurdish region in Iraq, which were scheduled for November 1, have been postponed for the time being.

The reason for this is, according to the parties, the continuing unrest in the region, which broke out after the independence report of 25 September. According to an anonymous Kurdish parliamentarian, 'the parties have not been able to focus on the recruitment of suitable candidates'.

After the referendum, in which an overwhelming majority of the 92 percent of Iraqi Kurds voted for independence, the Iraqi army entered the town of Kirkuk. Apart from Iraq, Iran and Turkey are furious against any attempt by the Kurds to separate themselves from Iraq with the aim of establishing an independent state.
