Elderly Mafia boss guilty of murder

A federal jury in Boston considers an elderly ex-Mafia boss of the Cosa Nostra in New England guilty of the murder of a nightclub owner in 1993.

The members of the jury are of the opinion that there is sufficient evidence that the 84-year-old Francis 'Cadillac Frank' Salemme with a more than 20 years younger companion is responsible for the death of Steven DiSarro. According to them, this catering man worked with the police and therefore had to be removed from the road.

If the right murder is also proven, then the two can get a life sentence. The verdict is 13 September. Salemme's lawyer was disappointed on Friday and announced an appeal. His client was at the time the head of organized crime in Boston with James 'Whitey' Bulger at his side. The films 'Black Mass' (2015) and 'The Departed' (2006) are based on his criminal life.
