Egyptian army kills militants in Sinai

During the confrontations between the Egyptian army and Islamic militants in Sinai in recent days, nineteen militants have been killed and twenty others have been arrested, the army reports on Thursday.

The conflict in Sinai worsened when former President of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, was deposed and replaced by current President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Warriors associated with IS have since killed hundreds of soldiers and residents of the area.

Sisi ordered last November to shut down the IS branch in Sinai after an attack by the jihadists at a mosque on the peninsula. That attack killed at least three hundred people.
