Diver died in rescue operation Thailand

During the rescue work of the twelve Thai football players and their trainer in a cave complex in the north of Thailand, a diver was killed.

The man was a former member of the Thai elite unit of the Marines and was part of the rescue team in Chiang Rai, the authorities said. Thailand has been under the spell of the stranded team for days. The young people and their trainer disappeared on 23 June during a visit to the cave complex. Divers found the group only this week back. They are stuck at about 4 kilometers from the entrance.

The authorities have used pumps to lower the water level in the cave. The football players also get a diving course diving and swimming. The diver is the first fatal victim in the attempt to get the team out of the cave complex.
