Death sentence Sudanese converted to cell punishment

The death sentence against a nineteen-year-old Sudanese who killed her husband in self-defense was destroyed by a judge.

The woman killed her husband when he wanted to rape her. Her father forced Hussein to marry Abdulrahman Mohamed Hammad when she was sixteen. Sudanese law allows children to marry from the age of ten.

After the marriage contract was signed, Hussein was forced to live with her husband. When she refused sex with her husband, he asked two brothers and a cousin to help him rape her. Hammad wanted to rape her the next morning. The woman fled to the kitchen, picked up a knife and stabbed her husband during a fight.

Noura Hussein has been in jail since May 2017. At the end of April the death sentence was pronounced against Hussein.
