Dead and wounded by earthquake in Haiti

Due to an earthquake in Haiti, according to the authorities, at least 10 people were killed and several people were injured.

The quake with a force of 5.9 took place in the northernmost tip of the Caribbean country, but was also felt in the capital Port-au-Prince. The civil protection service reported that the quake caused panic in several cities. The president of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, called on people via Twitter to stay calm.

A police chief reported that seven people had died in the northern harbor town of Port-de-Paix after their house collapsed. That place is near the epicenter of the quake. Somewhat more to the south in the town of Gros-Morne, three people died. According to the local newspaper Le Nouvelliste, a room collapsed in that location. Also, prisoners would have been released after the police complex they were in was damaged.

In 2010, an earthquake occurred in Haiti of unprecedented proportions. Then there were more than 200,000 deaths. 2.1 million people were affected in one way or another by the disaster.
