Controversial Tokyo governor resigned

The governor of metropolitan Tokyo, Yoichi Masuzoe, Wednesday resigned.

The departure of the controversial minister, according to The Japan Times another setback for the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in the Japanese capital.

The 67-year-old former minister Masuzoe had made it much too far, according to the council by claiming expenses that were actually private or redundant. Tuesday announced a majority in the council could resign the governor or otherwise be dismissed by the Board.
