Consultation German parties still going on

The German Christian Democrats and Social Democrats have not finished the final round of their exploratory talks after nearly a day.

Negotiators from SPD and CDU / CSU have been around the table since Thursday morning. Chapters like Chancellor Angela Merkel and SPD leader Martin Schulz made it clear that they would not be easy conversations. Should an agreement be reached on a basis for further negotiations, the SPD members may also decide on this.

Chancellor Merkel initially negotiated with the liberal FDP and the Greens after the elections, but that did not work out. After an election defeat, the SPD actually wanted to take an opposition, but eventually agreed to consult.
