Chilean officers entered the cell to murder singer in 1973

Almost 45 years after the death of the well-known Chilean singer Victor Jara, nine suspects have been convicted.

The popular singer and songwriter Jara was killed in 1973. This happened shortly after General Augusto Pinochet seized power in Chile. Jara sympathized with the government of the ousted socialist president Salvador Allende. He was detained with other detainees in a football stadium, which has since been named after him.
