Central bank Liberia has lost many millions of cash

The Liberian central bank turns out to have lost 89 million euros in cash.

The authorities say that since last year several banknote charges have disappeared. They were printed abroad and imported via Liberian ports. The disappearance amount equals about 5 percent of the gross domestic product of the West African country.

Among other things, researchers are trying to find out how much money has been paid abroad, where it is printed and where it is now. The orders took place when Sirleaf was still in power. She has now given way to George Weah.
