Cell punishment for Australian archbishop

An Australian archbishop was sentenced on Tuesday to a year in prison for concealing sexual abuse of children by a priest.

Philip Wilson (67) is thus the highest Catholic clergyman in the world who has been convicted in the abuse scandal within the Catholic Church. The archbishop is likely to be given house arrest in connection with his incipient dementia.

Wilson would have known that in the seventies priest James Fletcher sexually abused nine boys. This Fletcher was convicted for this in 2004, but he is now deceased. Wilson has always denied that he knew about the abuse.
