Car rides in public Copacabana: baby dead, 15 wounded

A hard-driving car was ridden in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro on hikers who were present in large numbers on the footpath of the famous Copacabana.

According to the police there is no indication that the car was deliberately driven into the public. According to a local news site, the driver of the car fled the scene of the accident, but he was soon arrested. The suspicion is that he caused the collision as a result of an epileptic seizure.

Eyewitnesses reported that the car suddenly departed from its direction of travel, driving across a cycle path and then reaching pedestrians. The place is popular with city dwellers and tourists.
