Campaigners put lignite mine shut

Thousands of climate activists from different countries have shut down in the German Lausitz region, south of Berlin, a lignite mine of energy company Vattenfall.

The activists blocked roads and railway lines. Also shut down a plant that lignite is excavated. The action Ende Gelände (far and no further ') aims to eliminate all fossil fuels.

The lignite mine occupation began Friday and will last throughout the Whitsun weekend, according Teuling. According to her, everything goes so far nonviolent and that is also the intention.
